Get a Rotating Closet with Armoire - A Review
Armoire, just a fancy word for wardrobe or closet right? Kind of. But Armoire is your fancy digital closet that lets you rent from mid-range and designer brands to have a rotating closet. Basically, my dream. There are designer options like Diane von Furstenburg or Tory Burch and mid range brands like BB Dakota or Joie, in addition to little known brands like LACausa, which is an LA based brand.
Moms, this one is also for you. When you sign up you can select if you’re just wanting to spice up your closet or need maternity wear. You can put in your due date and get shipments throughout your pregnancy that fit and are on trend, without having to store these clothes or shell out a bunch of money.
I tried out Armoire and just had to share my review of the service, as I think it may be my new favorite clothing rental service. Strong words….but just keep reading.
What is Armoire?
Cost: $149.00 per monthly box
Number of items: 4 items that you get to keep for a month or exchange
Do I pick? Oh yeah, pick whatever you want!
Can I keep it? Yes, for a discount, too!
Shipping: Included in the price!
What can I get? Daily wear, mostly. You can probably get anything you would wear on a daily basis and maybe a nice dress for a semi-dressy event, but not like black tie formal.
Sizes: 0-24W in Dresses/Pants and XS-4X in tops. Oh, and maternity options!
Who is this for?
If you want designer duds without paying the price, this is for you. Like for me, I know I would like to try things from brands like Diane Von Furstenburg or other statement making brands. I really like designer brands that have bold colors and styles, but I don’t usually wear these types of items more than a couple times.
So, renting these types of items works out perfectly for me at a price I can afford. I also like that I can easily exchange an item after I get it in and it doesn’t work. I don’t have to keep it for the whole month and I can replace it with something that works better for me!
How it Works
Getting your first shipment from Armoire is easy peasy, and you can use the link below to get $100 off your first box!!
You’ll head over to Armoire to sign up and it will walk you through the process to sign up. It’s going to ask you to put in your sizing information and choose different items/outfits that you like so it can curate some items for you in your size to choose from for your shipment.
Once you’ve signed up, you can choose 4 items for your first shipment. One of my favorite features is that I can heart items I like. I can also choose an option of a crossed out heart if I don’t want to see that item again in my list to choose from.
You can add items to your box as you go (and it lets you add more than four, but won’t ship with more than four, you have to narrow it down to proceed) or you can heart items and then choose from the things you hearted to put in your box.
Anddd, if you so choose, you can have a digital stylist pick out what will be in your box. This is a feature I’m super excited about, because it’s always a fun way to get outside of your comfort zone. And, since you can exchange items, no month is wasted if you didn’t like the picks.
Note, you don’t have to use the digital stylist, you just have that option. I like that I kind of have the best of both worlds, choosing what I want or having the input of an expert.
Once you’re all ready to go, your box will ship in just a few days and be at your doorstep for the wearing.
My shipment came in an unassuming white bag, but inside was so beautiful I didn’t want to wrap it.
See above if you don’t believe me 😉.
Each package comes with an adorable origami dress unique to your package (this definitely ended up on my bulletin board).
Inside your package you will get your four items wrapped and freshly laundered. Bonus: you don’t have to wash your items to send it back, in fact, Armoire prefers if you don’t, they’re the professionals. Oh, and they aren’t wrapped in unnecessary plastic wrapping. Yay environment!
Returning the Box
After you’re tired of your items, whether that’s before or after a month, you ship it back in the included extra shipping bag, which is plenty big to hold everything. There is, of course, an included free shipping label on the bag so you don’t have to worry about figuring all that out. This will ship with USPS, so most everyone should have a location nearby.
Before you ship it back, make sure you go into your account and select which items you’re returning and how you ended up liking them. T
But wait! Keep on reading to see what I got and how I styled each item (and what I ended up keeping)!
What I Got
What’d ya get, what’d ya get? Hold your horses, let me show ya!
I got these four items from four different brands, so I’ll talk a little about that. I really liked that Armoire offers multiple brands to choose from and isn’t just a single house brand or a handful of chosen brands. I will also share what size I got in each item, for your reference, if you’re interested in these brands.
If I had bought each of these items from a retailer I would have spent $646!
While that’s certainly a big number, it could definitely be much higher if you chose more designer items than I did. I just happened to choose some that were on a lower price point. No matter what you choose, you will always pay the same monthly price, which my budget loves.
One of my favorite parts of renting is being able to wear items multiple times to decide if they fit in my closet.
For example, I initially thought I would end up keeping the DVF skirt, the BB Dakota Jacket, and the WildFang Floral Blouse. However, after wearing all three several times, it was evident that the DVF skirt was not special enough for the price and I found the WildFang blouse a bit too busy to continue wearing. It was one of those you’ve seen it and people WILL remember it pieces.
However, the BB Dakota jacket was phenomenal. I styled it with many dresses and tried it out for an edgy look with jeans, and I still want to keep wearing it. I was even persuaded to get rid of my leather jacket in favor of this one, which is ten times more comfortable to wear and still gives me the edge I’m looking for in my closet.
So, I only ended up keeping the jacket, which cost me $79. I do wish there were steeper discounts, since that’s only 10% off the retail price. I lovedddd this jacket, so it was worth it to me. Had the price been lower on the DVF skirt, I would have definitely kept it.
Swipe to see how I styled my pieces
I stepped out of my comfort zone with this bright skirt by styling it with a cardigan…worn as a shirt. I’ve seen others do this and have never been brave enough to try it, until now! I love this look because it winterizes a very summer skirt and makes it more versatile.
That jacket, tho! I told you it was good. This summer maxi dress looked less sweet and more “I live on the edge, but not too close to the edge” with the added jacket. A keeper.
I was desperate to try a jumpsuit, but this one just did not work that well for me. It looked chic in pictures, but I felt more like a prisoner wearing it. The headband helped, but overall not a great fit for me.
Ahhh, isn’t this floral blouse divine?! I love love love the tie neck. It’s attached, which makes my life much easier (and chicer). I actually ended up buying this shirt in white and navy, because I loved the fit so much. The floral was just a bit too much for my style, but otherwise PERFECT.
Overall Rating
9/10
Almost perfect! I really like that I’m able to exchange items within the month, so I don’t have to wait a whole month if something is working out.
And I love the variety of brands that aren’t accessible in my budget, or they’re brands I haven’t heard of (like WildFang, which is a new favorite).
My only requests would be for steeper discounts on items you want to keep, and an app! Since you can exchange more often with Armoire, an app would be useful to quickly go and see what I want to return/get for any new shipment. I kind of forgot I could do that, but seeing an app on my screen would be a good reminder to stay engaged with Armoire.
Overall, I definitely think it’s worth a try, especially if you’re trying to stretch a limited budget. You don’t have to do it every month, just try it out once or do it quarterly to freshen up your style (we all know this is necessary after the dreary winter months!).
