Nordgreen Watch Review: The Sustainable Watch You Didn’t Know You Needed

Are you on the hunt for that once in a lifetime watch? You know, one that’s affordable yet timeless and somehow still on trend? That’s a pretty big ask, my friend…Luckily, I know just the watch to carry you from a casual night out to the boardroom and heck, even to your next rushed grocery run (those are always on a time crunch).

Drumroll, please. The answer is…

Nordgreen Watches!

I mean, even the name just sounds timeless and classy, and best of all, sustainable. That’s kind of my favorite part. But before we get into the specifics about the watch, I should probably give you a little backstory. Looking at one of Nordgreen’s watches without knowing the story is like watching the last Avengers movie without having seen any of the prior movies!

Who are they?

The ‘Nord’ part of Nordgreen stems from the Nordic heritage and minimalistic style that is in each of their three styles of watches. We all know how the Nords love their minimalism, so this brand is no disappointment. The ‘Green’ part of Nordgreen comes from the ways in which the brand tries to give back to the world and remain sustainable in their production.

In order to produce the watches sustainably, Nordgreen only offers three styles and partners with sustainable manufacturers to produce the watches which are packaged and sent off to your doorstep in the cutest recyclable packaging. And I might be upcycling the packaging into a gift box, so it just keeps on giving.

What I really love is that the brand goes beyond their own company and manufacturing to make the world a better place, which is done through profit donation. Anytime you purchase a watch, you get to choose from one of three causes to donate a part of your purchase amount. It’s unique and exciting that the buyer gets to make a choice about which cause is most important to them and to support that with a worthy purchase.

The Causes

  • 2 Months of Education to a child in India

  • 2 months of clean water to an individual in Central African Republic

  • Preserve 50 square meters of rainforest in Latin America

The watch

Nordgreen sells three different watch face styles, buttttt the kicker is that the straps are interchangeable! You can choose between a variety of leather straps and metal mesh straps, and the newly introduced vegan leather straps.

It’s great that Nordgreen recognizes the importance of cutting back on the use of animal products and provides vegan leather straps to support that need. If you didn’t know, you couldn’t tell that the vegan leather straps are any different from the regular leather straps. Bad fake leather really gets to me, but Nordgreen does a great job of nailing the texture.

Sizing

There is actually a size for everyone! This truly shocked me, y’all. I have teeny tiny wrists, like I wear children’s bracelets tiny wrists. No joke. It can be difficult to find watches where the straps fit me and the watch face doesn’t overwhelm my wrist.

The Infinity watch is perfect for small wrists, so this watch might be your jam, ladies. The watch face is 32mm, which is the smallest size, and I wear my strap on the second to last hole. I also asked some family members with larger wrists to try it on, and it works for average size wrists, as well.

If you have larger wrists, never fear, you have not been left out. The Philosopher and Native watch styles have 36mm and 40mm watch faces in addition to the 32mm option, so these are more suited to a larger wrist since the strap can go farther.

Watches might not be something where you really consider that different sizes are necessary, but wrists are just as variable in size as the rest of our bodies. So, I appreciate that Nordgreen makes an option for every size and every sex.

My Conclusion

9/10

Pretty dang good, and a girl can’t give a perfect score, now can I! I love so many aspects of the Nordgreen watches. They’re affordable in the grand scheme of things at $210 with your chosen strap, and considering this is a watch I plan on wearing for at leastttt the next 20 years, it’s worth it and saving money over my $40 watches that break at least once a year (plus I’ve got a pretty great discount code for ya).

Of course, the all around sustainability and effort to improve is the best part of this brand. I like that they keep their line limited to a select few styles, and my only ask would be for an all black metal watch (you know me and my love affair with black). Hey, a girl can dream.

Bonus: If the price is still too high for your budget, never fear. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are going to be your best friends for watch deals at Nordgreen. Keep a check on the Nordgreen website for those deals coming up extra soon and maybe even check back to this post for an updated discount code!
