If you’re familiar with me, you might be wondering why I’m doing a review on curvy jeans. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a pretty petite person! I’m 5’3” and usually wear a XXS-XS in clothing. I’m not exactly what comes to mind when one thinks of curvy! But, I think these “Curvy” jeans from Everlane have been misnamed. Or, maybe we’re just thinking about curves in all the wrong way and Everlane has got it right.

See, we often equate curvy with having those perfect figure eight, make a man whistle on the street curves. If you saw me in the street, I guarantee you would think I am ruler straight and need jeans shaped like a pencil. But, under these clothes there are the smallest of curves that make a pretty big difference.

I might be small, but my hip to waist ratio is kind of big! I don’t have a bangin’ butt by any means, but I do have some classic childbirthing hips as my friends so lovingly called them. Whatever, my mom said they’re just jealous .

So, I always have the problem of my pants either being too tight across my hips if the waist fits or too big in the waist if the hips fit. I tailor a lotttt of my jeans, y’all. But, I never considered curvy jeans, because I and I think a lot of us hear the word curvy and think plus-size. It’s just the branding.

In reality, plus-size, petite, regular, hourglass, or Amazon, we’ve all got some odd thing about our body. And you’re probably wondering what this has to do with Everlane’s Curvy Jeans. Well, I think Everlane has figured it out. They’ve created these curvy jeans that have a tighter waist fit (so you don’t get that waist gap in the back) but have enough room for those hips.

The best part? They’re offering them for every size (and working on extending the size range!)

But how do they really hold up on a petite person whose curves don’t exactly qualify me for the best body award?

(Disclaimer: We’re talking a lot about curves here and I don’t want to make anyone feel bad about their bod. I love my bod, single curve and all. And you should love yours too, whether you’ve got zero curves or a billion. All curves are great).

The Curvy Skinny Jeans

Colors

These come in three different washes, and I have my fingers crossed for more! But, the colors offered should certainly tide you over for a while.

• Dark Blue Wash

• Mid Blue Wash

• Black Wash

My favorite is the Dark Blue wash, because it is the perfect dressy dark jean. Some dark jeans read too blue, but these are that very muted navy that feel classy. Bonus: They don’t have yellow stitching on the sides of the jeans, which can really take away from a nice dark jean.

I’ve got my hopes up for a faded/washed black jean and some ripped jeans, although ripping can always be a Pinterest project for the weekend.

Sizing

Currently the jeans are offered in waist sizes 23-35

I got a 23, and I am usually a 23/24 in other brand jeans. I find Everlane generally runs a bit big and almost always size down one size in clothing (shoes I find true to size).

I got them in the Ankle length, which is perfect on me at 5’3”. They hit right at my ankle. I think if you’re over maybe 5’5” I would go with regular length unless you want cropped jeans.

Compared to old jeans

I love these soooo much, y’all. I don’t think I’ve ever known what it’s like for jeans to truly fit on every part of my body, no tailoring required. That’s not an exaggeration, all of my childhood pants had safety pins in them to make sure there weren’t any slip ups on the playground.

There is absolutely no waist gap in the back, and yet the fabric isn’t straining across the front of my hips. I really tried these on a whim because I saw they were offered in small sizes, which intrigued me because they were called Curvy jeans.

I’ve gotta say, I think this is what curvy should really mean, at least in the pants world. I’ve always thought because I’m petite that I get the smallest size and make adjustments as needed. I never considered that my hips would be considered “curvy” by any means!

If you struggle with a waist gap in pants, seriously, try these out. They’re affordable at $68 a pair (a steal, honestly), and they’re much better quality than higher priced denim I’ve tried.

I actually have tried Everlane Skinny Jeans before in the non-curvy edition, and they were returned. I had the same issues I always had, the fit was actually quite bad for me. I was constantly pulling the pants up even though they felt tight on my legs and hips.

These Curvy Skinny Jeans are 10 times better. A million times better! I don’t know if I can ever go back to my old jeans, honestly.

Note: If you’re confused about sizing, go with your regular size. It’s kinda like maternity clothing where you get whatever your regular size is and they take care of the extra adjustments and calculations.

My Conclusion

8.5/10

I would rate these a 8.5/10. Almost perfect, and more perfect than any jean I’ve ever tried. I took off a half point for the small amount of washes, a half point for the current lack of extended sizing (though I understand this is in the works), and a half point for the softness of the denim.

It might just be something I’m not used to, but these jeans are not like stretchy soft jeans. These are what I would consider a true denim that is going to mold to your body. They’re thinner than the mom jeans of the 80s, but a little stiff at first. Wearing them for a few days did soften them up, but not to the point where they start sagging. That was pleasantly surprising, but I don’t think they’ll ever feel like the jean leggings a lot of us wear (even if they’re not marketed as jeggings! Looking at you Paige Denim). Just something to note if you’re someone who can only live in sweatpant jeans (we all have those days).

Overall, I 100% recommend pretty much everyone with the smallest of curves try these out. Everlane, serious kudos.
